Bonaire is the shore diving island. Roughly eighty sites are marked from the road with a painted yellow stone, and at most of them you park, kit up beside the car and walk in — no boat, no schedule, no waiting for eleven other people. That is why the standard way to do it is a pickup truck with tanks in the back rather than a daily boat charter. Two things the map does not tell you: everything on Klein Bonaire needs a boat, and the east coast is only diveable on the handful of days a year the trade wind drops, whatever the calm photographs suggest.
