There is no bridge and no ferry; you cross by water taxi from the centre of town, which takes around fifteen minutes.
The island is flat, dry and ringed by reef, and that reef is the reason to go: it is in better condition than much of the main island's west coast because nobody lives here and nothing runs off into the sea. Turtles nest on the beaches between roughly May and November, and the nesting areas are marked and closed off — stay outside them.
Take the first boat out and the last one back; they run to a timetable and there is nowhere to shelter if you miss it. Nothing is sold on the island, so food, water and shade come with you. The crossing costs around twenty-five dollars per person return. A full day, or half if you take the early boat home.
