About Queen Emma Bridge

This is the Queen Emma Bridge, often called the ‘Swinging Old Lady’. Built in 1888, this floating bridge connects Otrobanda and Punda across the harbor. When large ships enter the bay, the bridge opens by swinging to the side. Pedestrians then cross using small ferry boats. This unique system has made the bridge one of Willemstad’s most recognizable landmarks.
