Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue

Mikvé Israel-Emanuel Synagogue is one of the oldest continuously used synagogues in the Western Hemisphere. It was founded in 1651 by Sephardic Jewish settlers who arrived in Curaçao after fleeing religious persecution. The current building dates from the 18th century and is notable for its sand-covered floor, a tradition symbolizing both humility and the history of secret worship.
