About Karel’s Beach Bar
It is built out into the sea on stilts, which means every table is over water and the sunset arrives without anything in the way. Four generations of the same family have run it, and it works as three things at once: a lunch stop, the island's most obvious sundowner, and the boarding point for the water taxi to Klein Bonaire.
Open every day from 08:00 to midnight, which is the widest span of any bar on the island — breakfast through to last orders. The kitchen does international dishes and the cocktail list is long. Prices are boulevard prices. Half an hour for a drink, two hours for a meal; arrive by half past five if you want a rail table for the sunset, because those go first.
