Mangrove Information Center

It was set up in 2002 and it is the only way for a visitor to get into the mangroves: the channels are protected and closed to motorboats, so guided kayak trips are the entire access.

The tours start with a short talk on why the mangroves matter — they are the nursery for the reef and hold back what would otherwise wash into it — and then you paddle in. The water is clear and knee-deep and the roots are full of juvenile fish, upside-down jellyfish and the occasional turtle.

Open Monday to Saturday, closed Sundays. The one-hour tour leaves at eleven and costs around thirty dollars, twenty for children from five to twelve; the two-hour tour goes at half past eight and half past two and costs around fifty, thirty-five for children. Book ahead in high season, though walk-ins are taken up to a quarter of an hour before departure if there is room.
