About Atlantis Beach

It is a working beach rather than a lounging one: a wide, shallow, rubble-and-sand shore with nothing behind it but scrub.

The trade wind blows across the water almost every afternoon between roughly December and August, which is why the kite schools are here and why the launch area is busy. Beginners get shallow standing depth for a long way out; the wind is strong enough that this is not a place to teach yourself.

Come in the afternoon, when the wind is up — mornings are often too light to be worth the drive. The beach is free, but board rental and lessons are not, and you should book those ahead in high season. Half a day, and take water: there is little shade and nothing for sale nearby.
