Lac Bay is why people learn to windsurf on Bonaire rather than anywhere else, and the reason is depth: the lagoon is between fifteen centimetres and two metres almost everywhere, so when you fall off you stand up, retrieve the board and start again instead of drifting out to sea. A reef across the mouth of the bay keeps the water flat more than nine days in ten, and it sits at twenty-six to twenty-eight degrees, so a wetsuit is beside the point.

Rental and lessons both run through the day; the wind is lightest in the morning and strongest between noon and three, which makes a first lesson an early appointment and a good session an afternoon one. Reckon on half a day either way. Prices are per hour or per day for gear and per lesson for tuition, so say what you want when you book. There is a beach bar and shade, which matters — it is a twenty-minute drive back to anywhere.
