Paddleboarden Whatsup

The bay is a shallow lagoon closed off by a reef, which means flat water and no swell — the easiest place on the island to stand up on a board for the first time.

Guided sessions take you along the mangrove edge, where the water is clear enough to see the roots and the young fish between them from standing height. That view down is the reason to paddle here rather than anywhere else. Boards, paddles and a brief lesson are included.

Go in the morning: the trade wind builds through the day and standing on a board gets a great deal harder once it does. Reckon on an hour and a half and ask about the price when you book, since it depends on group size. Book ahead, and bring sun protection — there is no shade out on the water.
