Electric makes more sense here than it does at home. Bonaire is thirty-eight kilometres end to end, so range is never the problem it is in Europe, and an electric scooter is silent — which along the coast road means you hear the sea and the birds instead of a two-stroke engine, and it means you are not the person who wakes a neighbourhood at seven in the morning on the way to a dive. The island runs increasingly on solar, so the charge behind it is cleaner than the petrol alternative.
Reckon on around twenty-five to forty dollars a day, with helmets included and a deposit on a credit card; guided tours are priced separately, so ask. Eighteen and a car licence. Helmets are compulsory. Half a day for a tour, a full day if you are riding to the south and back.

The south coast route is built for exactly this: half a day, paved road the whole way, and the story starting by itself the moment you reach a stop. Golf carts are not allowed into Washington Slagbaai and the unpaved north is not made for them, so the south is where a cart earns its keep.
