The difference with the scooter shops in town is the machines: this is where you go for something with an actual engine rather than a fifty-cc runabout, and because they also sell and service what they rent, the maintenance is done in-house. For a rider who wants to do the full coastal loop — north past the dive sites, across to Rincon, down through the interior — a proper motorcycle turns that into an afternoon rather than an expedition.
You need a motorcycle licence for the larger machines; a car licence covers the standard scooters. Reckon on twenty-five to forty dollars a day for a scooter and more for a motorcycle, with a deposit of a hundred to three hundred dollars on a credit card. Helmets are compulsory on Bonaire. The south coast route is built for exactly this: half a day, paved road the whole way, and the story starting by itself the moment you reach a stop. Golf carts are not allowed into Washington Slagbaai and the unpaved north is not made for them, so the south is where a cart earns its keep.
