Umbrella Restaurant & Cocktails

Umbrella Restaurant & Cocktails is a restaurant and cocktail bar at Kaya C.E.B. Hellmund 6 in the South Pier Mall, on the Kralendijk waterfront and walkable from every hotel in town.

The kitchen is international with the sea in front of it: a grilled catch of the day alongside steaks and pasta, and a cocktail list that gets as much attention as the food. There is seating inside and out, and the outside tables look straight at the water — which on this coast means the sunset lands in your lap around six.

Open every evening from 17:00 to 22:00 except Sunday. Dinner only. Main courses are at the level you would expect on the boulevard, which on Bonaire means above Dutch prices — almost everything on the menu came in by boat. Reserve in high season; the terrace is the part that fills first, and it fills from around six.

Allow two hours for dinner, or an hour if you are only there for a cocktail before eating elsewhere. Being in the South Pier Mall means you are a minute from the cruise pier and five from most of the shops, so it works as the end of an afternoon in town rather than a trip of its own.
