El Bigote Mexican Kitchen

Everything is made in the kitchen rather than opened from a tin: the salsas, the guacamole, and the tortillas, which are pressed by hand. The menu runs from tacos and enchiladas to ribs and grilled fish, and the bar takes the margaritas as seriously as the food — they are muddled to order and cost around ten dollars.

Open Tuesday to Saturday from 18:00 to 22:00, with the bar from 17:30; closed Sunday and Monday. Dinner only, so this is not a lunch option. Reserve — the room is small and it fills in high season, and being off the waterfront does not make it any quieter. Reckon on two hours.

Prices sit in the middle of the Kralendijk range: less than the fine dining on the boulevard, more than a beach bar, and the portions do not require a second course. It is one of the few kitchens in town that is neither seafood nor steak, which on a two-week stay counts for something.
