A golf cart is the right vehicle for a particular kind of day: open-sided, slow, and perfect for the paved coast road south past the salt pans and the slave huts, where you are stopping every ten minutes anyway. Bachelor's Beach is ten minutes away, 1000 Steps a little more. What it is not for is the north — golf carts are not allowed in Washington Slagbaai National Park, and the unpaved roads there will damage them or bog them down in sand.
Reckon on sixty to ninety dollars a day for a two-seater, more for a four. A valid driving licence is required and you drive on the right. Take sunscreen and water: there are no doors, no roof to speak of and no air conditioning, which is the charm in the morning and less so at two in the afternoon. Half a day to a full day.

The south coast route is built for exactly this: half a day, paved road the whole way, and the story starting by itself the moment you reach a stop. Golf carts are not allowed into Washington Slagbaai and the unpaved north is not made for them, so the south is where a cart earns its keep.
