Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire

Sea Turtle Conservation Bonaire is the research foundation that has monitored the island's turtles since 1991, with an office and small visitor shop at Kaya Aruba 4E in Kralendijk. Three species nest here — hawksbill, loggerhead and green — and everything known about their numbers on Bonaire comes from this organisation's tagging work.

It is not an attraction with an enclosure: there are no turtles on site. What there is instead is access to the work. Free public presentations are held at the office on the second and fourth Wednesday of the month at eight in the evening, and they are the best hour anyone can spend on understanding what is happening to the reef.

Between May and October you can join a guided nest patrol on Klein Bonaire — forty dollars for adults, twenty for children and residents — and certified divers can join the fishing-line clean-up dives. The shop and the presentations are free. Reckon on an hour for a talk, half a day for a patrol.
