Visa Requirements

Dutch nationals may stay up to a hundred and eighty days without a visa. Citizens of the European Union, the United Kingdom, the United States, Canada and most South American countries need no visa either, for stays up to ninety days within any period of a hundred and eighty. Other nationalities do need one, and it must be arranged before travelling.

Whatever your passport, three things are checked at the border: a passport valid for the whole of your stay, proof of onward or return travel, and enough money to cover the visit. Border officials may shorten the permitted period if the purpose of the visit or your means are unclear, so have the return booking to hand rather than in an inbox you cannot reach.

The Visitor Entry Tax is separate and applies to everyone regardless of nationality: seventy-five dollars a person from thirteen years, paid online in advance or at the airport. Check the current rules on the Dutch government website before you fly, since entry requirements change more often than most travel details.
